Students and staff at BFU’s Wildlife Institute are always looking for opportunities to share and learn about relevant conservation research and action happening across the globe. One of our PhD candidates, Charlotte Whitham was fortunate enough to be accepted to present some of her work at Australia’s first Asia-Pacific Student Conference on Conservation Science (SCCS-Aus) at the beginning of this new year. The conference was attended by over 100 students and conservation professionals from over 20 different nations and lasted an epic 10 days. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet other conservation scientists and practitioners working in similar geographic areas and in similar research fields. During her presentation, Charlotte provided an in-depth look at the concept behind her work and how her data collected so far in Yunnan, is helping to empirically demonstrate that concept. The title read: “Managing to understand, understanding to manage: Human-wildlife conflicts in the context of ecosystem service provision and top predator conservation.” More information can be found at the conference website (http://sccs-aus.org/) where Charlie is also featured in the conference’s promotional video!
