Chen Pengju has just returned to Beijing after more then 1 month of fieldwork, located in Qilianshan National Nature Reserve, Gansu Province. Pengju set out to the field to finish up the previous winter’s snow leopard camera trap survey by collecting all of the cameras that were deployed. Given the rainy season, fieldwork was challenging and it was difficult to access all of the cameras with the flooding of the rivers. Chen Pengju also took this opportunity to conduct some social surveys with local people in the area, in order to try and understand local attitudes towards wildlife and whether there are conflicts between local people and wild ungulates. Through this work Pengju hopes to build on his Masters research, which focuses on understanding the ecology of snow leopard prey populations in the Qilianshan area.
