Head of the Wildlife Institute & Associate Professor at the College of Nature Conservation, Beijing Forestry University.
I graduated from the College of Wildlife Resources, Northeast Forestry University July 1983, then worked in the Natural History Museum of Jilin Province until May 2006, and the Forestry Department of Jilin Province from June 1986 to March 1992.
I moved to Japan on April 1992 and learnt Japanese in Tokyo for two years, then started study at the Tokyo University of Agricultural & Technology up to March 2000 when I achieved my PhD degree.
I worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Grassland Research Centre of Japan in January 2000 to February 2005 and then a Postdoctoral Researcher registered at the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit at University of Oxford from March 2005 to March 2006.
After returning from the UK, I started teaching at the College of Nature Conservation at Beijing Forestry University (BFU) (since May 2006) , and established the Wildlife Institute BFU in 2009. I major in wildlife ecology and conservation and presently head over ten projects relating to conservation of endangered species and biodiversity, ecosystem management and wildlife disease control collaborating with partners inside of China and internationally. I speak good English and Japanese, and have published more than 50 papers up to now.
Research Interests
Ecology and evolution of wildlife
Endangered species and biodiversity conservation
Ecosystem management
Current Projects
Building Capacity for Wild Felid Conservation in China (supported by Darwin Initiative, UK,2010 -2013) Collaborative project with WildCRU, which would train 800 staff working for wild cat conservation and monitoring cross over China in following three years. Promote extensive international collaboration and build China Cats Conservation and Monitoring Network (CCCM Network).
Snow leopard conservation and monitoring in China (supported by SFA, 2007-2012 ): Focus on demographics, population dynamics and range structure of snow leopards by line transect survey, camera trapping and DNA analysis in Xinjiang, Gansu, Sichuan, Tibet provinces; Concentrate on predator-prey ecology, ranging behavior, social conflicts and conservation strategies of snow leopard in Taxkorgan and Qilian Mountains.
Study on population and habitat conservation of Indo-Chinese tigers in China (SFA, 2011-2013): Concentrate on population dynamics, habitat restoration and optimization, and conservation strategies of Indochinese tigers in Xishuangbanna and bordering ranged areas of the Indochinese tiger habitat restoration and research.
Study on population and habitat of Bactrian camel in Lop Nor, Xinjiang (2010-2013 ): Ecological and sociological approach on population and habitat of the Bactrian camel to explore scientific and feasible conservation strategies for their wild population.
Research on population and habitat of blue sheep in southern Xinjiang (SFA, 2009-2012 ): Ecological research on the population structure and habitat restoration of blue sheep in Taxkorgan plateau and Qilian Mountains; Spatial distribution and disposal of mange sickness infected by wild ungulates in Taxkurgan.
Distribution, dispersal and differentiation meta-population of leopards affected by habitat fragment in China (supported by SFA, 2011-2014).
